Research, in just one place, pools its resources to fight cancer. This unique concentration of strengths and resources contribute to understand the fundamental mechanisms of cancer, find new strategies for healthcare and research, and finally act by transferring therapeutic discoveries down to the bedside. The University Cancer Institute Oncopole is a new way to think cancer treatments. Besides the healthcare and public health missions of this establishment, another top priority: innovation and research for the benefit of patients. IUC Oncopole is place of healthcare, an international center for research as well as an innovation platform. The ultimate goal of Oncopole is to offer faster, more innovative healthcare for patients with cancer. Research improvement processes allows the implementation of the most promising projects, within the best regulatory framework.
Specific resources
Technical resources with enhanced effectiveness due to the proximity of multidisciplinary teams sharing platforms, maintenance and technical evolution. To accommodate : more than 300 beds and places.
To treat: 1200 healthcare professionals.
To operate: consulting rooms, operative units, diagnosis, therapeutic and technical platforms.
Complementary tools: the Grand Southwest Canceropole, transfer companies and project hotels have the financial, technical and human resources that facilitate encounters between key project stakeholders.
About training Institutional partners

Scientific and university training: the Toulouse PRES - 4 universities, 12 engineering schools, 300 teachers and researchers.

Vocational education and thematic or tailored training in oncology, open to all audiences: OncoResonance - the School of Cancer-related knowledge and specialties

The funding, construction, logistics and running of a site like Oncopole require support from regional, national and European partners: Initial financial support and convergence of public initiatives.

Running, structuring and supporting research

Three measures contribute to the structuring, the running and the supporting of cancer research in Toulouse :

  • The Toulouse Cancer Santé  Foundation
  • The Grand Southwest Canceropole

Even if these structures have different means of action and geographical boundaries, all two have the purpose and ambition to bring a continuous support to both fundamental and clinical research. Their objective: generate new advances in the knowledge of tumorigenesis mechanisms and in oncology healthcare.

« This project, which brings together scientists, clinicians, academics, and industry around the fight against cancer is now in its operational phase and I am glad about that. The project will have an ambition that goes well beyond the site of the Oncopole but that will make it a regional reference and probably more. The challenge we face is to synergize all stakeholders in the fight against cancer in a process of innovation and progress. »
